Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?

As we age, the automatic process of exfoliation and cell renewal slows down. Sometimes the body needs a little help. Microdermabrasion is a skin exfoliating process that improves the tone and texture of the skin and also reveals the new, living skin cells that are soft and smooth.

The treatment is performed by passing a hand held device that uses a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals over the skin. These crystals, delivered at high velocity onto the skin surface are immediately vacuumed away, taking the top-most layer of dead skin cells with it. At the same time the underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the treatment and this promotes new collagen, thickening the dermis and improving the resistance to the effects of ageing. The Skinbase™ Microdermabrasion machine has an additional safety factor in that it allows the velocity of the crystals to be adjusted according to the needs of each client.

What is Microdermabrasion used for?

By controlling the power of the spray, anything from a gentle buffing of the skin to deeper exfoliation can be achieved.

The treatment is ideal for:

  • acne - removing blackheads and reducing signs of pitting
  • pigmentation (with additional use of White Balance Serum)
  • lesion and scar formation
  • improving penetration of skin care products by up to 50%
  • reducing superficial stretch marks

How long does the treatment take?

Each treatment takes approximately 45 minutes.

How long will the treatment last?

In order to achieve the maximum effect, a series of at least 5 treatments is required, one treatment per week.

In summary:

This relatively simple and uninvasive treatment may begin immediately following a consultation. Similar to a gentle peel, the treatment can also improve fine lines and wrinkles, dislodge blackheads and whiteheads, and leaves the individual feeling vibrant and healthy, and results in skin that not only feels softer and smoother, but also has a healthy-looking glow.

The affordability of microdermabrasion is a key factor behind its popularity and why it brings customers to skincare specialists. Microdermabrasion sessions, on the average, cost at least half of what a Botox injection costs, and may address several skin conditions at a time.

The fine crystal blast from microdermabrasion allows for rapid recovery and there’s no downtime. You're likely to find the treatment soothing, and not painful as you would potentially experience with a laser skin resurfacing treatment.

NOTE: Microdermabrasion is suitable for nearly all skin types BUT if you have thin skin or broken capillaries a peel is a better choice.
